My Name is Leon Plett
I’m proud to come from a family of farmers from Arborg Manitoba, where I learned the value of things like honesty, community, and hard work.
Coffee had always fascinated me, but it was an entirely unknown world until I moved down to Colombia where I lived and worked alongside coffee growers, experiencing firsthand what it takes to produce a great coffee, from farming to the processing, trading and brewing it.
Along the way, I met incredible farmers, honest, hard-working people who cared deeply about their craft but often struggled to connect with buyers in North America. At first, I just helped where I could introducing friends, family, and small businesses to the farmers I had come to trust, keeping things simple, honest, and transparent. I never imagined that what started as a way to support my community would eventually grow into what Avanti is today.
But getting to this point wasn’t always easy. I had to learn the language, navigate the complexities of doing business in a new country, and, like anyone trying to build something real, I made my share of mistakes. Some lessons were tough, but they gave me a clear understanding of what works, what doesn’t, and how to make coffee sourcing a smooth, reliable process for those who need it.
Today, I use that experience to help businesses in Canada and the U.S. get the best Colombian coffee. without the uncertainty, the middlemen, or the stress. Whether you’re a roaster, café, or retailer, I’ve been where you are, and I know what it takes to make things work.
